Network Topologies

Data Routing & Fault Tolerance

How it Works: Networks are arranged in different physical or logical layouts (topologies). Each has trade-offs regarding speed, cost, and resilience. If a node fails, can the network adapt?

Instructions:

  • Pan & Zoom: Click and drag to pan. Use camera controls to zoom.
  • Move Panel: Drag the top bar of the control panel (Desktop).
  • Toggle Send Data mode, click Start & End nodes to create a continuous data stream.
  • Toggle Break Node mode, then click a node, edge link, or the bus backbone to see real topology failures.

Controls Guide:

  • ▶️ Play/Pause: Halt or resume packet movement.
  • 🔄 Reset: Clear packets and restore broken nodes.
  • ⏭️ Step: Advance simulation frame-by-frame.

Challenge: Build a Star network. What happens to the entire network when you destroy the central hub compared to destroying a mesh node?
